In a few words

10 Jun

Even though M has come such a long, long way with his speech since we started speech therapy, he is still often a boy of few words.

Here’s a sample of what he had to say last night and this morning:

“OK, it’s time now” (meaning, ‘I am ready for bed’)

“Stop now” (meaning, ‘I have had enough of your big smothering cuddles and kisses mum, let me go to bed’).

“See you later!” (meaning, ‘I love you mum, have a good night!’)

“Seatbelt please” (meaning, ‘I have climbed into bed with you in the middle of the night mum, please put your arm around me’)

“Not yet!” (meaning, ‘I have woken up, but it’s far too early and I am going to go back to sleep now for a while’ – which he did)

“OK, that’s enough” (meaning, ‘I have had enough sleep now. It’s time to get up, run out into the lounge room and immediately start playing with my trains’).

“Restaurant is open!” (meaning, “Can I please have some breakfast now?”)

Yep, he’s often only got a few words to share, but they are gorgeous words and we so love having our quirky boy with his wonderfully minimalist, often creative use of the English language.

Singing in the rain

6 Jun

It has been a rainy year here so far. Getting out and about in the rain with kids can often be a challenge, even more so when you’ve got one little guy using a walker to get around and possibly another one or two in a pram. The end result up until recently has been that one or more of us just gets wet.

But no longer!

I bought this pram umbrella holder from ebay a few weeks ago. It cost under $10. And it works fine with the walker!

It’s rather a nifty little piece of equipment because you can unscrew it at the middle point and leave the base on the walker at all times without it really getting in the way and it doesn’t have any sharp angles to worry about.

S is thrilled to be able to walk by himself in the rain and I love both that it’s giving him independence and that it frees up my hands to hold my own umbrella.

Also of course loving that it was a cheap, hassle free solution.

Another beautiful video

1 Jun

I just have to share another beautiful video where a mother shares her story, and her love of her child. It’s apparently been viewed over 7 million times. And deservedly so.

Enjoy (but have a tissue or two nearby) :-).
